Viking cooktop repair: what to know
Viking gas cooktops and rangetops use sealed burners with a spark ignition system, while its electric models use radiant elements or induction. On gas models, spills that reach the electrode or switch cause most ignition trouble, including burners that click constantly. Viking electric cooktops have their own failure points, such as element switches and, on induction, the power boards and cooling fans under the glass.
Worth knowing about Viking: Viking's open burners run at high output, and spark igniters and clogged burner ports account for more Viking cooktop trouble than the electronics do. Also, Viking oven doors are heavy, and the hinges and springs carrying them wear; a door that no longer seals lets heat escape and looks like a temperature-control fault.

How we diagnose a Viking cooktop
Whatever the brand, on a cooktop we check igniters and burner ports on gas; elements, switches and the control board on electric and induction — a gas burner that won't light or flames unevenly almost always has a clogged port or a bad igniter, not a bad valve.
One cooktop problem that often sends people to the wrong part is an induction cooktop throwing an error during long, hot cooking, which is often the unit protecting itself from overheating or poor ventilation rather than a failed board.
Built-in Viking equipment: what the visit involves
Most Viking equipment is built into cabinetry or anchored in place, so the visit starts with working out how to reach it. We allow a longer appointment and protect floors, cabinet faces and countertops before anything moves.
It changes the economics as well. Replacing a fitted Viking cooktop usually means cabinet or countertop work on top of the new appliance, so a failure that would retire a freestanding unit is usually still a repair here.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are on the underside of the cooktop or the burner box, often visible from the cabinet below. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which Viking platform you have and which parts to bring.
On gas, make sure each burner cap is seated and the ports are clean and dry. On electric, note whether one element or all of them are out. On induction and touch controls, write down any error code.

Yes. On most spark systems every electrode sparks together when any knob is turned to light. If they keep clicking after the knob is turned off, a wet or stuck switch behind a knob is the usual cause.
Check that the burner cap is seated correctly and that the ports aren't blocked. Clean them as the manual describes and let the burner dry fully. A lifting or yellow flame after cleaning needs a technician to check gas pressure and the orifice.
On many models the glass top is available as a part. Stop using a cracked cooktop, because spills can reach the elements and wiring underneath.
Igniters, switches and elements are often available for a first-visit repair. Glass tops and induction boards usually need ordering.
