Refrigerator Repair
A refrigerator never gets a day off. Its compressor, fans and defrost system cycle around the clock, and in San Antonio they do it through months of summer heat, sometimes in a garage that climbs past 100 degrees. When a fridge stops keeping food cold, the cause is more often a fan, a defrost part or a dusty condenser than a dead compressor, so those are checked first.
Washer Repair
A washing machine fills, agitates, drains and spins a wet load that weighs far more than the dry clothes did. Most failures come from that mechanical work, such as pumps, belts, couplers, bearings and suspension, or from something as ordinary as a sock lodged in the drain pump. Hard water adds wear to inlet valves and, on machines that have one, the internal heater.
Dryer Repair
A dryer is a heat source, a turning drum and a fan that pushes hot, damp air out through a duct. When drying slows down, the duct is often at fault rather than the dryer. In a slab-built house the vent frequently can't run down and out, so it climbs through the attic to the roof, and a long vertical run packed with lint will make a healthy dryer look broken.
Dishwasher Repair
A dishwasher is a plumbing appliance at heart: it fills, heats, sprays and drains, and every step depends on water getting through small openings. San Antonio's hard water leaves minerals on spray-arm jets, filters, inlet screens and heating elements. Cloudy glasses and a gritty film are often a water-chemistry problem before they are a machine problem.
Oven Repair
An oven holds a set temperature by switching a bake element, broil element or gas burner on and off against what its sensor reports. When baking goes wrong, the heat source, the sensor, the control and the door seal can all produce the same result, so they're measured before anything is replaced. Gas ovens, common in homes on CPS Energy natural gas, add an igniter and a safety valve to the list.
Microwave Repair
A microwave makes heat with a magnetron fed by a high-voltage circuit, and that circuit can hold a dangerous charge even after the oven is unplugged. That is the main reason microwave repair isn't a do-it-yourself job. Over-the-range models add a vent fan, filters, a damper and a cooktop light to the list of things that can fail.
Freezer Repair
Upright and chest freezers are simple machines asked to do one thing well: stay near 0°F while the room around them doesn't. Plenty of them live in garages, where a July afternoon pushes the surrounding air past what many units were designed for. When a freezer starts losing ground, heat, airflow or a tired door seal is often behind it rather than a failed compressor.
Cooktop Repair
A cooktop gets heat into the pan with a flame, a radiant element under glass or an induction coil, and each type has its own weak points. Gas tops mostly give trouble at the spark igniters and burner ports, radiant tops at the elements and their switches, and induction tops at the electronics and the cooling fan that protects them.
Ice Maker Repair
A standalone ice maker is a small refrigeration system and a water system sharing one cabinet. The refrigeration side usually holds up; the water side is what gives trouble. San Antonio's water is very hard, and scale on the evaporator plate, water pump and inlet valve is a leading reason ice production slows down or stops.
Wine Cooler Repair
A wine cooler holds a much narrower temperature band than a kitchen refrigerator, and small drifts matter to what's in the bottles. Compressor models and thermoelectric models fail in different ways. Thermoelectric units in particular can only cool so far below the room they sit in, which during a San Antonio summer is sometimes the whole explanation.
Stove Repair
A stove is two appliances in one cabinet, a cooktop above and an oven below, and the halves usually fail independently. A burner that won't light tells you little about the oven, and an oven that runs cold says little about the burners. Each half is diagnosed on its own terms, whether it runs on natural gas, propane or electricity.
Range Repair
A range pairs a cooktop and an oven under one control system, and on pro-style and dual-fuel models the two halves may even use different fuels. That makes range faults easy to misread: an oven that won't heat might have a failed igniter, a stuck relay or a control problem, and each needs its own test before anyone orders a part.

Yes. SAWS puts the typical hardness of its water at 15–20 grains per gallon, which is very hard. Scale builds up on dishwasher spray arms and heating elements, washer inlet screens, refrigerator water valves and ice-maker fill tubes. Slow ice production, a white film on dishes and a washer that takes a long time to fill are typical signs. When the symptoms point to scale, the screens and valves get checked before anyone assumes a bigger part has failed. A water softener, or a filter on the refrigerator supply line, slows the build-up.
Often it isn't broken. Most refrigerators are designed for a room that stays within a set temperature range, and an attached garage in San Antonio can pass 100°F on a July or August afternoon. The compressor runs without a break, the freezer warms up and food spoils. We look up the unit's rated operating range and check the condenser and fans before pricing a repair, and if the real problem is the location, we'll tell you. Garage-rated models exist if you're replacing one. A hard freeze causes the opposite problem: some refrigerators stop cooling the freezer when the garage gets too cold.
You can request the visit, but check your lease first: if the appliance belongs to the property, the landlord or property manager usually arranges and pays for the repair. When you book, tell us who owns the appliance and who approves the price, and give us their contact details. The landlord or manager can also book directly and let us arrange access with you.
If you're bringing your own washer, dryer or refrigerator, prepare it for the move: drain the washer and fit its shipping bolts if it's a front-loader, empty and dry the refrigerator, and if it traveled on its side, let it stand upright for a few hours before plugging it in. At the new house, a washer with its shipping bolts still in place shakes violently, and a kinked drain or dryer vent hose causes problems that look like faults. Appliances in on-base housing are handled through the installation's housing arrangements, so contact your housing office first.
Renters, landlords and PCS moves →Yes, gas and electric. Before working on a gas appliance we close its shut-off valve, and after reconnecting it we check the connection for leaks. If you ever smell gas, don't try to find the cause yourself: leave the house and call CPS Energy or 911 from outside.
It depends on the appliance's age, what failed and what the repair costs compared with a replacement you'd be happy with. Built-in appliances are often worth repairing for longer, because replacing one can mean cabinet work too. Once the fault is found, we'll tell you what we'd do in your position, including when the repair isn't worth it.
Yes. Our repairs are warranted for 90 days on parts and 30 days on labor. The warranty covers the specific repair we made, so if the same part or the same work fails within that time, tell us and we'll come back to it.
