Appliance Repair in Northwest San Antonio

The Deco District and Jefferson (78228): Fredericksburg Rd's Deco District and the Jefferson-area streets around St. Mary's University — 1920s–40s houses, many on pier-and-beam foundations.

Northwest San Antonio does not have one type of housing — it has several within a few miles. Older houses, mid-century ranches, apartment complexes and brand-new subdivisions all turn up on the same drive, so we confirm the make and model and where the appliance sits in the house when you book.

Tap water in Northwest San Antonio comes mainly from SAWS, which draws on the Edwards Aquifer. SAWS describes its water as very hard — typically 15 to 20 grains per gallon — and that limestone scale builds up on dishwasher heaters, washer inlet screens, refrigerator water valves and ice makers. It is behind a lot of "not cleaning," "slow fill" and "no ice" complaints.

The campus neighborhoods in Northwest San Antonio are full of apartments and shared rental houses, where appliances work harder than in a typical family home — more laundry loads, more cycles, more people using the same refrigerator. Door gaskets, washer suspension and dryer lint paths wear faster as a result.

In Northwest San Antonio's apartment and condo buildings, getting to the appliance is part of the job. Compact appliances are the norm: 24-inch dishwashers, stacked washer-dryers, and all-in-one washer-dryer units in closets. A stacked dryer that takes two cycles to dry a load usually has a restricted vent or a clogged lint path, not a failed heater.

Leon Valley is an independent city along Bandera Rd. The rest of the area is within San Antonio. For an appliance repair that makes no practical difference — we cover those addresses the same way — but it does matter for things like permits on bigger jobs and which utility supplies your water.

Many homes in Northwest San Antonio have the washer and dryer in the garage, next to a second refrigerator or freezer. In summer, that space gets hotter than the appliances were designed for, and the combination of heat and dryer exhaust makes it worse if the vent is not sealed properly.

The occasional hard freeze is the other side of it: a garage washer's fill hoses and a fridge's water line can freeze and split, as many people found in February 2021. If your garage appliance started leaking after a cold snap, check the hoses before anything else.
