The mid-century houses across South San Antonio have been updated in layers — a new kitchen here, a new panel there — so it is common to find a current appliance on an original circuit, or a modern washer draining into a standpipe sized for machines from fifty years ago.

Tap water in South San Antonio comes mainly from SAWS, which draws on the Edwards Aquifer. SAWS describes its water as very hard — typically 15 to 20 grains per gallon — and that limestone scale builds up on dishwasher heaters, washer inlet screens, refrigerator water valves and ice makers. It is behind a lot of "not cleaning," "slow fill" and "no ice" complaints.

If the appliance came with your rental, the owner is usually responsible for fixing it, and many leases say who to call. Check before you book; if the owner asks you to arrange it, we can send the price to them for approval before any work starts.
