Bosch cooktop repair: what to know
Bosch cooktops come in gas, electric radiant and induction versions, including Benchmark models. Gas tops use sealed burners with spark electrodes that foul when a spill dries on them, and a knob switch that keeps sparking after the burner lights usually has moisture or grease inside it. Induction models rely on power electronics and a cooling fan under the glass, so a blocked air path in the cabinet below can cause cutouts and error messages.
Worth knowing about Bosch: a Bosch runs quietly enough that a pump or bearing starting to go is audible well ahead of a breakdown, so a new noise is worth a call early.

How we diagnose a Bosch cooktop
Whatever the brand, on a cooktop we check igniters and burner ports on gas; elements, switches and the control board on electric and induction — a gas burner that won't light or flames unevenly almost always has a clogged port or a bad igniter, not a bad valve.
One cooktop symptom that's easy to misread is an induction cooktop throwing an error during long, hot cooking, which is often the unit protecting itself from overheating or poor ventilation rather than a failed board.
Repairing a Bosch cooktop instead of replacing it
Bosch builds for a long working life and keeps parts available for years. When one component fails on a Bosch cooktop that's ten or fifteen years old, the rest of the machine often has plenty of life left, which isn't always true of an entry-level appliance at that age.
Bosch parts cost more and are more often special-order, so some repairs need a second visit. You'll know the wait before you agree to the repair, and the return visit is booked before we leave.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are on the underside of the cooktop or the burner box, often visible from the cabinet below. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which Bosch platform you have and which parts to bring.
On gas, make sure each burner cap is seated and the ports are clean and dry. On electric, note whether one element or all of them are out. On induction and touch controls, write down any error code.

Induction electronics need cooling air, and the cooktop cuts out to protect itself if it overheats. Check that the cabinet or drawer beneath it has the ventilation gap the installation instructions call for and that nothing is stored against the underside. Warped pans or pans too small for the zone can also make a zone switch off.
The igniter sparks while the knob's switch is closed. If spilled liquid has reached that switch, or the burner cap is off-center so the flame doesn't settle, it can keep clicking. Let everything dry fully and reseat the cap; if clicking continues, the switch may need replacing.
On many models the glass is available as a part, often supplied with its frame. Availability depends on the exact model and age, so the E-Nr on the label underneath the cooktop decides it. Stop using a cracked top until it's been assessed.
A dead zone on an induction top can be the pan, a cooling fan or a power board, and a gas burner that won't light can be a cap or a spark module. Each needs its own test before a part is chosen.
