DCS cooktop repair: what to know
DCS rangetops and cooktops are pro-style gas units with sealed burners, electronic ignition and, on many models, automatic reignition that sparks again if a flame goes out. Some include a griddle or grill. On a rangetop with reignition, a burner that keeps clicking while lit usually has a flame-sensing issue, not a stuck switch. Grease buildup in a griddle or grill section also affects how it heats.
Worth knowing about DCS: DCS is the pro-style cooking line of Fisher & Paykel, built around powerful burners and heavy grates and well known for its outdoor grills. Also, the usual DCS repairs are igniters, clogged burner ports and infrared broiler elements, all of them serviceable parts.
Common DCS cooktop failures
These are the failure points to check first on a DCS cooktop:

How we diagnose a DCS cooktop
Whatever the brand, on a cooktop we check igniters and burner ports on gas; elements, switches and the control board on electric and induction — a gas burner that won't light or flames unevenly almost always has a clogged port or a bad igniter, not a bad valve.
One cooktop symptom that's easy to misread is an induction cooktop throwing an error during long, hot cooking, which is often the unit protecting itself from overheating or poor ventilation rather than a failed board.
Built-in DCS equipment: what the visit involves
Most DCS equipment is built into cabinetry or anchored in place, so the visit starts with working out how to reach it. We allow a longer appointment and protect floors, cabinet faces and countertops before anything moves.
It changes the economics as well. Replacing a fitted DCS cooktop usually means cabinet or countertop work on top of the new appliance, so a failure that would retire a freestanding unit is usually still a repair here.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are on the underside of the cooktop or the burner box, often visible from the cabinet below. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which DCS platform you have and which parts to bring.
On gas, make sure each burner cap is seated and the ports are clean and dry. On electric, note whether one element or all of them are out. On induction and touch controls, write down any error code.

Models with reignition keep sparking until they detect a flame. If the flame doesn't touch the sensing electrode, from a misaligned cap or dirty electrode, the module keeps sparking. Clean and dry the burner area first.
Check that the griddle surface is clean and that the burner underneath is lighting fully across its length. Clogged burner ports or a failing thermostat can cause uneven heat.
Most can with the correct conversion parts. Each burner needs the right LP orifice and valve adjustment. The gas type is on the rating plate.
Igniters, switches and elements are often available for a first-visit repair. Glass tops and induction boards usually need ordering.
