LG cooktop repair: what to know
LG cooktops come in gas, radiant electric and induction versions, and they share many burner and element designs with LG ranges. Gas models include a high-output burner, called UltraHeat on many models, whose larger ring of ports clogs more easily after boil-overs. Radiant tops use ribbon elements under the glass, some with dual rings. Induction models depend on a power board and cooling fan, which can overheat if the space under the cooktop is packed too tightly.
Worth knowing about LG: most LG appliances have a Smart Diagnosis feature that reports a fault through the LG app or a phone held to the panel, and the result is worth passing along when you book.

How we diagnose an LG cooktop
Whatever the brand, on a cooktop we check igniters and burner ports on gas; elements, switches and the control board on electric and induction — a gas burner that won't light or flames unevenly almost always has a clogged port or a bad igniter, not a bad valve.
One cooktop problem that often sends people to the wrong part is an induction cooktop throwing an error during long, hot cooking, which is often the unit protecting itself from overheating or poor ventilation rather than a failed board.
What LG cooktop repairs usually involve
Parts for LG are made in volume and stocked by many suppliers. On an LG cooktop, the parts that wear out are mostly inexpensive ones: spark igniters and switches, burner caps and heads, radiant elements and infinite switches.
The bill changes when the fault is an induction power board or a cracked glass top. On a newer unit that can still be a sensible repair; on one well into its working life, it's often the point where replacing makes more sense, and you'll hear that at the diagnosis.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are on the underside of the cooktop or the burner box, often visible from the cabinet below. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which LG platform you have and which parts to bring.
On gas, make sure each burner cap is seated and the ports are clean and dry. On electric, note whether one element or all of them are out. On induction and touch controls, write down any error code.

Larger burners have more ports, and spills or cleaner residue can block some of them. Remove the cap, clean the ports with a soft brush or toothpick and dry it fully before reassembling. An uneven flame after cleaning points at a warped cap or a gas supply problem.
Induction electronics protect themselves by shutting down when they overheat. Check that the air intake and exhaust under the cooktop aren't blocked and that the fan runs. Repeated shutdowns with good airflow point at the fan, a sensor or the power board.
No. Induction needs cookware with a magnetic base: if a magnet sticks firmly to the bottom, it will work. Aluminum, copper and glass pans won't be detected unless they have a magnetic layer, and the zone will typically flash or beep instead of heating.
Usually, if only one burner or zone is affected and there's no gas smell, cracked glass or electrical fault. A cracked top or a gas smell means stop using it altogether.
