Dacor cooktop repair: what to know
Dacor cooktops come in gas, radiant electric and induction versions. Many gas models use Illumina burner controls, which light a ring around the knob while a burner is on, and SimmerSear burners designed to turn down very low. A burner that lights but won't hold a low simmer points at the cap, ports or valve, while a dark Illumina ring on a working burner is a separate lighting or control fault that doesn't affect the gas.
Worth knowing about Dacor: Dacor burners, elements and igniters are replaceable parts, so mechanical repairs remain worth doing well past the ten-year mark. Also, on Dacor equipment built before Samsung took over, the proprietary control boards are what's most likely to have gone out of production, and we check that before quoting.

How we diagnose a Dacor cooktop
Whatever the brand, on a cooktop we check igniters and burner ports on gas; elements, switches and the control board on electric and induction — a gas burner that won't light or flames unevenly almost always has a clogged port or a bad igniter, not a bad valve.
One cooktop problem that often sends people to the wrong part is an induction cooktop throwing an error during long, hot cooking, which is often the unit protecting itself from overheating or poor ventilation rather than a failed board.
Built-in Dacor equipment: what the visit involves
Most Dacor equipment is built into cabinetry or anchored in place, so the visit starts with working out how to reach it. We allow a longer appointment and protect floors, cabinet faces and countertops before anything moves.
It changes the economics as well. Replacing a fitted Dacor cooktop usually means cabinet or countertop work on top of the new appliance, so a failure that would retire a freestanding unit is usually still a repair here.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are on the underside of the cooktop or the burner box, often visible from the cabinet below. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which Dacor platform you have and which parts to bring.
On gas, make sure each burner cap is seated and the ports are clean and dry. On electric, note whether one element or all of them are out. On induction and touch controls, write down any error code.

The ring is an indicator on its own circuit, separate from the gas and spark system. A failed light, a loose connection or a fault on the control that drives it is the usual cause. The burner still works, but you lose the visual cue that it's on, so it's worth fixing.
At very low flow, partly clogged ports or a cap that isn't seated let the flame lift and blow out. Clean the ports and seat the cap first. If it still won't hold a flame, the valve or orifice needs checking, and on models that relight automatically you'll hear clicking when it goes out.
Many gas parts such as caps, electrodes and valves are still available, but some older controls and trim parts have been discontinued. The model number settles it, so check availability before planning a repair.
Usually, if only one burner or zone is affected and there's no gas smell, cracked glass or electrical fault. A cracked top or a gas smell means stop using it altogether.
