Electrolux cooktop repair: what to know
Electrolux sells gas, radiant and induction cooktops, and the induction models are a strong part of the line. Induction zones are driven by power boards under the glass that need their cooling fan working and clear airflow underneath, so a cooktop squeezed over a drawer or blocked vent can shut down or show errors. Gas models use sealed burners with spark ignition, and radiant models rely on elements and switches or touch controls. A cracked glass top should be replaced before the cooktop is used again.
Worth knowing about Electrolux: Electrolux shares engineering with Frigidaire and adds upgraded finishes, insulation and its own control electronics, so some parts cross between the two and the boards generally don't. Also, control boards in Electrolux induction cooktops are specific to the model, so on an older cooktop we check the board can still be had before we quote.

How we diagnose an Electrolux cooktop
Whatever the brand, on a cooktop we check igniters and burner ports on gas; elements, switches and the control board on electric and induction — a gas burner that won't light or flames unevenly almost always has a clogged port or a bad igniter, not a bad valve.
One cooktop problem that often sends people to the wrong part is an induction cooktop throwing an error during long, hot cooking, which is often the unit protecting itself from overheating or poor ventilation rather than a failed board.
Repairing an Electrolux cooktop instead of replacing it
Electrolux builds for a long working life and keeps parts available for years. When one component fails on an Electrolux cooktop that's ten or fifteen years old, the rest of the machine often has plenty of life left, which isn't always true of an entry-level appliance at that age.
Electrolux parts cost more and are more often special-order, so some repairs need a second visit. You'll know the wait before you agree to the repair, and the return visit is booked before we leave.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are on the underside of the cooktop or the burner box, often visible from the cabinet below. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which Electrolux platform you have and which parts to bring.
On gas, make sure each burner cap is seated and the ports are clean and dry. On electric, note whether one element or all of them are out. On induction and touch controls, write down any error code.

Induction boards protect themselves when they get too hot. Make sure the ventilation gap under the cooktop is clear and listen for the cooling fan when a zone is on. If the fan is silent or the shutdowns continue, the fan or a board needs testing.
Only pans with a magnetic base. If a magnet sticks firmly to the bottom and the pan covers most of the zone, it should work. If a suitable pan isn't detected, the zone may have a fault.
Usually a misaligned burner cap or ports blocked by food. Let it cool, clean the ports with a pin or brush, and seat the cap flat. If the flame is still weak or yellow, the gas supply or orifice needs checking.
A dead zone on an induction top can be the pan, a cooling fan or a power board, and a gas burner that won't light can be a cap or a spark module. Each needs its own test before a part is chosen.
