Frigidaire cooktop repair: what to know
Frigidaire cooktops come in gas, radiant smooth-top and, in the Gallery line, induction. Gas models share the usual spark-ignition parts: electrodes, burner switches and a spark module that can click nonstop if a switch gets wet. Radiant tops rely on infinite switches that wear at the contacts, so an element may stay on high or refuse to heat. Induction models are mostly electronic, with power boards and a cooling fan under the glass that must keep running for the zones to work.
Worth knowing about Frigidaire: Frigidaire is Electrolux's mainstream North American brand, so the two share many parts and repair procedures and parts are generally easy to get. Also, Frigidaire Gallery and Professional models often share mechanical parts with the base models but not their control boards, so the full model number matters on this brand.

How we diagnose a Frigidaire cooktop
Whatever the brand, on a cooktop we check igniters and burner ports on gas; elements, switches and the control board on electric and induction — a gas burner that won't light or flames unevenly almost always has a clogged port or a bad igniter, not a bad valve.
One cooktop problem that often sends people to the wrong part is an induction cooktop throwing an error during long, hot cooking, which is often the unit protecting itself from overheating or poor ventilation rather than a failed board.
What Frigidaire cooktop repairs usually involve
Parts for Frigidaire are made in volume and stocked by many suppliers. On a Frigidaire cooktop, the parts that wear out are mostly inexpensive ones: spark igniters and switches, burner caps and heads, radiant elements and infinite switches.
The bill changes when the fault is an induction power board or a cracked glass top. On a newer unit that can still be a sensible repair; on one well into its working life, it's often the point where replacing makes more sense, and you'll hear that at the diagnosis.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are on the underside of the cooktop or the burner box, often visible from the cabinet below. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which Frigidaire platform you have and which parts to bring.
On gas, make sure each burner cap is seated and the ports are clean and dry. On electric, note whether one element or all of them are out. On induction and touch controls, write down any error code.

Water or cleaner has probably reached a burner switch or the electrode. Leave the burners off and let the top dry for several hours with the grates and caps off. If the clicking continues once it is dry, the switch for that knob may need replacing.
That is typical of a failed infinite switch, which controls the element by cycling it on and off. When its contacts weld, the element stays at full power. The switch is replaced separately from the element.
Check the pan first: a magnet should stick firmly to its base, and it should cover most of the zone ring. If a known induction pan still isn't detected, or the display shows an error, the power board, sensor or cooling fan needs testing.
Igniters, switches and elements are often available for a first-visit repair. Glass tops and induction boards usually need ordering.
