Avanti cooktop repair: what to know
Avanti cooktops are compact two- and four-burner units in gas and electric, sized for small kitchens and apartments. Electric models may use coil or smooth-top elements controlled by infinite switches, and gas models use electronic spark ignition or manual lighting depending on the model. With so few burners, one failed element or burner takes out a large share of the cooking surface, and parts are ordered by model number.

How we diagnose an Avanti cooktop
Whatever the brand, on a cooktop we check igniters and burner ports on gas; elements, switches and the control board on electric and induction — a gas burner that won't light or flames unevenly almost always has a clogged port or a bad igniter, not a bad valve.
One cooktop symptom that's easy to misread is an induction cooktop throwing an error during long, hot cooking, which is often the unit protecting itself from overheating or poor ventilation rather than a failed board.
When an Avanti cooktop is worth fixing
Avanti keeps its appliances simple and affordable, with little electronics inside, so most failures come down to a switch, pump, belt, valve or thermal fuse that is quick to find and not costly to replace.
A new Avanti doesn't cost much either, so a repair has to stay small to be worth it. If an older unit has a major failure, such as an induction power board or a cracked glass top, replacing it is usually the better use of the money.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are on the underside of the cooktop or the burner box, often visible from the cabinet below. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which Avanti platform you have and which parts to bring.
On gas, make sure each burner cap is seated and the ports are clean and dry. On electric, note whether one element or all of them are out. On induction and touch controls, write down any error code.

The element or its infinite switch. On coil models, a burned receptacle is also common, and you can often see scorching at the plug-in point. Swapping the two coils is a quick way to tell whether the coil or the circuit is at fault.
Check the manual: some models allow manual lighting with a long lighter while the knob is turned. If a burner won't light within a few seconds, turn it off and let the gas clear before trying again. If you smell gas that persists, leave and call your gas provider from outside.
Sometimes, if the glass is still offered for your model. Stop using a cracked top in the meantime, because spills can reach the elements and wiring underneath.
Usually, if only one burner or zone is affected and there's no gas smell, cracked glass or electrical fault. A cracked top or a gas smell means stop using it altogether.
