Kenmore cooktops, gas and electric, mostly came from Frigidaire and Whirlpool platforms, so the model prefix again decides parts. Gas models use spark ignition with electrodes, switches and a spark module; a burner that clicks without lighting usually has a wet or dirty electrode or a misaligned cap. Radiant smooth-tops depend on elements and infinite switches, and a cracked glass top has to be replaced before the cooktop is safe to use.
Worth knowing about Kenmore: Kenmore never built its own appliances; Sears sold models made by Whirlpool, LG, Frigidaire, GE and others, and the digits before the decimal point in a Kenmore model number name the maker. Also, without the model number there is no way to tell whose engineering sits behind a Kenmore badge, or which parts will fit it.

Let it cool, clean the electrode and the burner ports, and seat the cap flat. Wet electrodes from a spill also cause this, so let it dry. If it still won't light, the electrode or switch may need replacing.
Often, if the glass assembly is still available for your model. The model prefix tells which manufacturer's part fits. Stop using a cracked top, since spills can reach the elements and wiring.
The infinite switch for that element has likely failed. It's usually replaced without changing the element.
A dead zone on an induction top can be the pan, a cooling fan or a power board, and a gas burner that won't light can be a cap or a spark module. Each needs its own test before a part is chosen.
