Fisher & Paykel cooktop repair: what to know
Fisher & Paykel cooktops come in gas, induction and electric versions, including the pro-style rangetops that carry designs from the DCS side of the company. Gas models use sealed burners with electronic ignition and, on many, a flame-failure thermocouple for each burner. Induction models have a cooling fan and power electronics under the glass. The model label is on the underside of the cooktop, so a photo of it taken during installation or from the cabinet below is useful.

Before the visit

On gas, make sure each burner cap is seated and the ports are clean and dry. On electric, note whether one element or all of them are out. On induction and touch controls, write down any error code.

Check whether the control lock is active; many models have a lock symbol held for a few seconds to release it. Then check the breaker, since induction cooktops draw a large current. If both are fine, the power board or touch control needs testing.
Many models have a thermocouple that closes the gas valve if it doesn't sense the flame. Hold the knob in for several seconds after lighting. If it still goes out, the thermocouple is dirty, misaligned or failed.
Most gas models can be converted with the correct LP injectors and valve adjustments. The conversion kit and procedure are model-specific. It should be done by someone qualified, and burners checked for flame quality afterward.
Igniters, switches and elements are often available for a first-visit repair. Glass tops and induction boards usually need ordering.
