Thermador cooktop repair: what to know
Thermador gas cooktops use the Star burner, whose five-pointed shape spreads the flame over a longer edge, and many burners offer ExtraLow, which cycles the flame off and back on to hold a very low simmer. That cycling means a burner clicking and relighting at low settings can be normal. Induction models, including the full-surface Freedom Induction, depend on power boards and cooling fans under the glass. On gas tops, spark electrodes and knob switches still wear.
Worth knowing about Thermador: Thermador belongs to BSH alongside Bosch and Gaggenau, but its pro ranges use Thermador's own burners and oven components. Also, Thermador's star-shaped burners spread the flame over more ports than a round burner, so an uneven flame usually means clogged ports or an igniter problem, not the gas supply.

How we diagnose a Thermador cooktop
Whatever the brand, on a cooktop we check igniters and burner ports on gas; elements, switches and the control board on electric and induction — a gas burner that won't light or flames unevenly almost always has a clogged port or a bad igniter, not a bad valve.
One cooktop symptom that's easy to misread is an induction cooktop throwing an error during long, hot cooking, which is often the unit protecting itself from overheating or poor ventilation rather than a failed board.
Built-in Thermador equipment: what the visit involves
Most Thermador equipment is built into cabinetry or anchored in place, so the visit starts with working out how to reach it. We allow a longer appointment and protect floors, cabinet faces and countertops before anything moves.
It changes the economics as well. Replacing a fitted Thermador cooktop usually means cabinet or countertop work on top of the new appliance, so a failure that would retire a freestanding unit is usually still a repair here.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are on the underside of the cooktop or the burner box, often visible from the cabinet below. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which Thermador platform you have and which parts to bring.
On gas, make sure each burner cap is seated and the ports are clean and dry. On electric, note whether one element or all of them are out. On induction and touch controls, write down any error code.

Probably not, if it's set to ExtraLow. That setting cycles the flame off and relights it to hold a very low temperature, so periodic clicking is part of how it works. Clicking at higher settings, or a burner that fails to relight, points to an electrode, switch or module fault.
Check that the cap is seated correctly and the ports are clear, since the star shape has many small ports that clog easily. A cracked or dirty electrode can also fail to relight the burner after it's blown out. If those are fine, the valve or spark module needs testing.
The full-surface design uses many coils driven by several power boards, with fans to cool them. Faults tend to involve a board, a fan or the touch display rather than the glass. Keep the ventilation space below the cooktop clear, since overheating causes cutouts.
Igniters, switches and elements are often available for a first-visit repair. Glass tops and induction boards usually need ordering.
