Most Smeg refrigerators in American kitchens are the FAB retro models, and many of them are compact units with a small freezer compartment inside the cabinet. That layout makes the door gasket and the freezer's frost level the first things to check when food starts warming. Smeg also sells built-in and counter-depth refrigerators, which are serviced more like other European built-ins. Because the curved FAB door and its gasket are specific to each model and color, parts are ordered by the full model number.

Not necessarily. Many FAB models use manual defrost for the freezer compartment, so ice builds up over time and needs to be defrosted by hand. If frost returns within days of a full defrost, the door gasket or a door left ajar is the more likely cause and should be checked.
Yes. The gasket is a separate part, but it's specific to the model, and on some versions to the door color, so it has to be ordered by the full model and serial number. A seal that has hardened or pulled away at a corner lets warm, humid air in and makes the compressor run much longer.
It may be working outside its design range. European refrigerators such as Smeg's list a climate class on the rating label, which sets the room temperatures they're built for, and a San Antonio garage in summer can exceed it.
