Many LG refrigerators use a linear or inverter linear compressor, and failures on some of those models were widely reported and led to class-action lawsuits. LG has offered longer parts coverage on these compressors than on the rest of the refrigerator, so check your paperwork before paying for sealed-system work. Other common failure points include the in-door ice maker on Slim SpacePlus models, fans the control flags as Er IF, Er FF or Er CF, and defrost faults shown as Er dH.
Worth knowing about LG: LG's linear compressor drives its piston magnetically with no crankshaft, and testing one takes a different routine from the conventional compressors in most other refrigerators. Also, most LG appliances have a Smart Diagnosis feature that reports a fault through the LG app or a phone held to the panel, and the result is worth passing along when you book.

They're fan errors: IF is the ice compartment fan, FF the freezer fan and CF the condenser fan. The control flags them when a fan isn't reporting that it's spinning, often because ice has built up around the blade or the motor has worn. Check that nothing blocks the blade before replacing a motor.
