Samsung's French-door and four-door refrigerators put the ice maker in the fresh-food door on many models, and that compartment has drawn widely reported complaints and lawsuits over ice buildup and leaking. Many models also use Twin Cooling Plus, with separate evaporators for the fridge and freezer, so a warm fresh-food section can be a fan or defrost fault on that side only. Family Hub and Bespoke models add a screen and Wi-Fi board, but the cooling system underneath works the same way.
Worth knowing about Samsung: many Samsung French-door models cool the fresh-food side and the freezer with two separate evaporators, so a warm upper section over a freezer that still works tells us which circuit to open, not that the whole refrigerator is on its way out. Also, frost building up around the ice compartment in the door is a widely reported problem on Samsung French-door models; the ice maker itself is often fine, and the lasting fix is stopping warm, moist air from getting in rather than just melting the frost out.

One refrigerator symptom that's easy to misread is a warm refrigerator section above a freezer that still feels fine, which looks like half the appliance dying but most often comes down to an evaporator fan that stopped or an air passage blocked with frost.
What Samsung refrigerator repairs usually involve
Parts for Samsung are made in volume and stocked by many suppliers. On a Samsung refrigerator, the parts that wear out are mostly inexpensive ones: fan motors, defrost heaters and thermostats, temperature sensors, door gaskets, water inlet valves and ice makers.
The bill changes when the fault is a main control board or the sealed system (the compressor and refrigerant circuit). On a newer unit that can still be a sensible repair; on one well into its working life, it's often the point where replacing makes more sense, and you'll hear that at the diagnosis.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are on a sticker inside the fresh-food compartment, usually on a side wall near the top or behind the crisper drawers. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which Samsung platform you have and which parts to bring.
Make sure the vents inside aren't blocked by food, both doors close and seal, and the condenser coils at the bottom or back aren't matted with dust. If the refrigerator is in a garage, note how hot it gets out there.

On door-mounted ice makers, cold air is ducted from the freezer into the fresh-food door. If the seal around that compartment leaks, or its fan or heater misbehaves, moist air freezes inside and the ice maker jams. Clearing the ice only helps for a while; the seal, fan or heater behind the problem needs checking.
That usually means the refrigerator is in demo or showroom mode, where the lights and display work but the cooling system is switched off. The button combination to exit it varies by model and is listed in the manual. If the display is normal and it still isn't cooling, there's a real fault to find.
Many Samsung models have a service defrost mode entered by holding a model-specific button combination. It helps confirm whether a frosted evaporator is the problem, but it doesn't repair anything. If the coil keeps icing, the defrost heater, sensor or control needs testing.
Cooling starts as soon as the fault is fixed, but a refrigerator that has warmed to room temperature can take up to 24 hours to settle at its set temperatures. Keep perishable food elsewhere until a thermometer confirms it.
