The thermostat may be set too cold, or it has stuck closed so the compressor never stops. Try a warmer setting for a day and see whether the compressor starts cycling off. If it still runs nonstop and freezes food, the thermostat needs replacing.
Many compact models have a manual-defrost freezer compartment. When ice gets thicker than about a quarter inch, switch the fridge off, let it melt with the door open and a towel underneath, then dry it before restarting. Heavy frost that returns within days points at a door seal that isn't closing.
