When both sections warm gradually, frost blocking the evaporator is a common cause, which points to the defrost timer or control, heater or thermostat. Look for frost on the freezer's back panel. A fridge that warms suddenly while the freezer stays cold points more toward the evaporator fan.
If it's labeled ice-maker ready, yes: the model accepts a factory kit and needs a water line connected at the back. The kit part number is in the manual or on a label inside the freezer. Fitting it means connecting the water valve and the ice maker harness.
On many Amana top-freezers, one control sets overall cooling and the other shifts how much cold air goes to the fresh-food side. Turning the fresh-food control to its coldest won't fix a defrost or fan fault, and it can freeze food near the vent.
