JennAir dishwasher repair: what to know
JennAir dishwashers are built-in models with hidden top controls, many offered panel-ready to match the cabinetry. Internally they're closely related to Whirlpool-family dishwashers, so pumps, inlet valves, filters and many heaters are familiar parts; the JennAir-specific pieces are the door, control panel and trim. On a panel-ready unit, the custom panel's weight changes the door spring tension needed, and springs set for a lighter door let the door drop or slam.
Worth knowing about JennAir: JennAir is the luxury brand in Whirlpool's family, so many mechanical parts are shared with KitchenAid and Whirlpool while control boards and panels are JennAir's own. Also, built-in JennAir appliances take careful removal, which pushes the point where replacement beats repair much further out than on freestanding models.

How we diagnose a JennAir dishwasher
Whatever the brand, on a dishwasher we check the water supply, then drainage, then the spray arms — dirty dishes come from a supply, spray-arm or filter problem much more often than from a failed pump or motor.
One dishwasher symptom that's easy to misread is wet plastics and cool dishes from a condensation-drying model, which is the design working as intended on many European-style dishwashers.
Built-in JennAir equipment: what the visit involves
Most JennAir equipment is built into cabinetry or anchored in place, so the visit starts with working out how to reach it. We allow a longer appointment and protect floors, cabinet faces and countertops before anything moves.
It changes the economics as well. Replacing a fitted JennAir dishwasher usually means cabinet or countertop work on top of the new appliance, so a failure that would retire a freestanding unit is usually still a repair here.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are on the edge of the door or the side of the tub, visible when the door is open. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which JennAir platform you have and which parts to bring.
Clean the filter at the bottom of the tub, check that the spray arms spin freely and their holes aren't plugged, and top up the rinse aid. If water is left standing, check the connection to the garbage disposal as well.

The door springs or cables either weren't set for the weight of the custom panel or have stretched or broken. Many models let the spring tension be adjusted, or heavier springs can be fitted. A properly balanced door holds partly open without dropping.
Check the circuit first, since the controls stay dark with no power, then make sure the door is fully latched and any control lock is off. If the panel is still dark, the user interface or the main control is the likely fault.
Not for most internal repairs: the filter, spray arms, pump and inlet valve are reached from inside the tub or below the door. Door-mounted parts such as the controls or latch may need the panel or the inner door liner removed. The panel goes back in its original alignment.
