LG dishwasher repair: what to know
LG dishwashers use an inverter direct-drive motor for the wash pump and, on QuadWash models, spray arms with extra rotating nozzles. The display reports faults with short codes: OE for a drain problem, IE when water isn't coming in, and AE, or E1 on some models, when the leak sensor in the base detects water. TrueSteam models add a steam generator, which collects scale faster on very hard water.
Worth knowing about LG: most LG appliances have a Smart Diagnosis feature that reports a fault through the LG app or a phone held to the panel, and the result is worth passing along when you book.

How we diagnose an LG dishwasher
Whatever the brand, on a dishwasher we check the water supply, then drainage, then the spray arms — dirty dishes come from a supply, spray-arm or filter problem much more often than from a failed pump or motor.
One dishwasher symptom that's easy to misread is wet plastics and cool dishes from a condensation-drying model, which is the design working as intended on many European-style dishwashers.
What LG dishwasher repairs usually involve
Parts for LG are made in volume and stocked by many suppliers. On an LG dishwasher, the parts that wear out are mostly inexpensive ones: drain pumps, inlet valves, door latches, heating elements, float switches and spray arms.
The bill changes when the fault is the main control board or the wash motor. On a newer unit that can still be a sensible repair; on one well into its working life, it's often the point where replacing makes more sense, and you'll hear that at the diagnosis.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are on the edge of the door or the side of the tub, visible when the door is open. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which LG platform you have and which parts to bring.
Clean the filter at the bottom of the tub, check that the spray arms spin freely and their holes aren't plugged, and top up the rinse aid. If water is left standing, check the connection to the garbage disposal as well.
In San Antonio, keep in mind San Antonio's very hard water — SAWS puts its typical hardness at 15 to 20 grains per gallon — which leaves film on glasses, plugs spray-arm holes and scales the heater, along with a hardness setting on many dishwashers that nobody ever changed.

AE, or E1 on some models, means the leak sensor under the tub has detected water. Common causes are oversudsing from regular dish soap, a leaking door gasket or a loose hose connection. Turn it off, let the base dry out and look for the source before running it again.
OE is a drain error. Clean the filter in the bottom of the tub, check the drain hose for kinks and, if it drains through a garbage disposal, make sure the disposal is clear and its knockout plug was removed. If those are fine, the drain pump needs testing.
QuadWash arms have extra rotating nozzles that clog with seeds, labels and scale. Remove the arms, clear the nozzles and check that they spin freely. Rinse aid and the right detergent help on very hard water.
The failed part and whether the dishwasher has to come out of the cabinet. Filters, spray arms and door latches are reachable from the front; pumps, inlet valves and some leaks need the kick panel off or the unit pulled out. The quote comes after the fault is confirmed.
