Maytag dishwashers are Whirlpool-built models marketed on cleaning power, with features such as the PowerBlast heavy-soil cycle, and filtration that differs between models. Which filter your Maytag has decides how much routine cleaning it needs, and the manual will say. Outside the filter, common failure points are the drain pump, the circulation motor, the door latch and the heating element, most shared with Whirlpool-family machines of the same age.
Worth knowing about Maytag: Maytag has been part of Whirlpool since 2006, so a Maytag built in the years since shares its internals and parts with Whirlpool models. Also, Maytag machines from before the Whirlpool merger are mechanically solid, but some of their parts are no longer made, so we confirm the part exists before recommending the repair.

Parts for Maytag are made in volume and stocked by many suppliers. On a Maytag dishwasher, the parts that wear out are mostly inexpensive ones: drain pumps, inlet valves, door latches, heating elements, float switches and spray arms.
The bill changes when the fault is the main control board or the wash motor. On a newer unit that can still be a sensible repair; on one well into its working life, it's often the point where replacing makes more sense, and you'll hear that at the diagnosis.

Clean the filter at the bottom of the tub, check that the spray arms spin freely and their holes aren't plugged, and top up the rinse aid. If water is left standing, check the connection to the garbage disposal as well.

PowerBlast is a heavy-soil cycle that uses higher temperatures and a longer, more forceful wash for baked-on food. If it no longer gets pans clean, check the filter and the spray-arm holes before assuming a part has failed.
The control won't start a cycle unless the door latch reports closed, so a failed latch switch is a common cause. A control lock left on can do the same; the manual shows how to release it. If both check out, a board or wiring fault is possible.
