Bosch dishwasher repair: what to know
Bosch dishwashers, from the 100 series up to Benchmark, sit on a sealed base pan with a float switch that shuts the machine down if water collects there. That lockout shows as E15, and a slow drip from a pump seal, hose or door gasket is enough to trip it. Drain problems read as E24 or E25, usually a clogged filter, drain hose or pump cover. Bosch dries by condensation, and CrystalDry models add a zeolite mineral, so damp plastics aren't a heater fault.
Worth knowing about Bosch: Bosch dishwashers have no exposed heating coil for drying — moisture condenses on the cool stainless walls instead — so plastics that come out damp mean the machine is behaving normally. Also, Bosch dishwashers include a water-hardness setting that most owners never change from its out-of-the-box value, and with San Antonio water at 15 to 20 grains per gallon, a low setting leaves the cloudy film people blame on a dying machine.
Common Bosch dishwasher failures

How we diagnose a Bosch dishwasher
Whatever the brand, on a dishwasher we check the water supply, then drainage, then the spray arms — dirty dishes come from a supply, spray-arm or filter problem much more often than from a failed pump or motor.
One dishwasher symptom that's easy to misread is wet plastics and cool dishes from a condensation-drying model, which is the design working as intended on many European-style dishwashers.
Repairing a Bosch dishwasher instead of replacing it
Bosch builds for a long working life and keeps parts available for years. When one component fails on a Bosch dishwasher that's ten or fifteen years old, the rest of the machine often has plenty of life left, which isn't always true of an entry-level appliance at that age.
Bosch parts cost more and are more often special-order, so some repairs need a second visit. You'll know the wait before you agree to the repair, and the return visit is booked before we leave.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are on the edge of the door or the side of the tub, visible when the door is open. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which Bosch platform you have and which parts to bring.
Clean the filter at the bottom of the tub, check that the spray arms spin freely and their holes aren't plugged, and top up the rinse aid. If water is left standing, check the connection to the garbage disposal as well.
In San Antonio, keep in mind San Antonio's very hard water — SAWS puts its typical hardness at 15 to 20 grains per gallon — which leaves film on glasses, plugs spray-arm holes and scales the heater, along with a hardness setting on many dishwashers that nobody ever changed.

E15 means the leak-protection float in the base pan has lifted because water got under the tub. The dishwasher runs its drain pump and won't start a cycle. The leak has to be found and fixed; tilting the machine to empty the pan only clears the code until it happens again.
Both are drain faults. E24 usually points to a restriction in the filter, drain hose, air gap or disposal connection, and E25 to something blocking the drain pump or its cover. Clean the filter and check the pump cover underneath it before assuming the pump has failed.
Bosch dries by condensation rather than with an exposed heating element, and plastic holds less heat than glass or china. Rinse aid makes a large difference, as does opening the door a few minutes after the cycle ends. If glass and china also come out cold and wet, the water may not be heating, which is a separate fault.
