ASKO dishwasher repair: what to know
ASKO dishwashers use stainless steel tubs and inner doors, and a leak-protection system that stops the machine and runs the drain pump if water reaches the base. Several models have a tall tub and a third rack. On very hard water, scale collects on the spray arms and heating element, and the filter at the bottom of the tub needs regular cleaning. On integrated models, the door springs and hinges carry a custom panel and can wear out.
Worth knowing about ASKO: Asko uses stainless steel inside its washers, dryers and dishwashers and builds them on heavy frames, so what wears out is usually a pump, valve or seal, not the structure. Also, an Asko dishwasher dries by condensation, like most European designs, so expect cool dishes and damp plastics.

How we diagnose an ASKO dishwasher
Whatever the brand, on a dishwasher we check the water supply, then drainage, then the spray arms — dirty dishes come from a supply, spray-arm or filter problem much more often than from a failed pump or motor.
One dishwasher symptom that's easy to misread is wet plastics and cool dishes from a condensation-drying model, which is the design working as intended on many European-style dishwashers.
Repairing an ASKO dishwasher instead of replacing it
ASKO builds for a long working life and keeps parts available for years. When one component fails on an ASKO dishwasher that's ten or fifteen years old, the rest of the machine often has plenty of life left, which isn't always true of an entry-level appliance at that age.
ASKO parts cost more and are more often special-order, so some repairs need a second visit. You'll know the wait before you agree to the repair, and the return visit is booked before we leave.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are on the edge of the door or the side of the tub, visible when the door is open. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which ASKO platform you have and which parts to bring.
Clean the filter at the bottom of the tub, check that the spray arms spin freely and their holes aren't plugged, and top up the rinse aid. If water is left standing, check the connection to the garbage disposal as well.
In San Antonio, keep in mind San Antonio's very hard water — SAWS puts its typical hardness at 15 to 20 grains per gallon — which leaves film on glasses, plugs spray-arm holes and scales the heater, along with a hardness setting on many dishwashers that nobody ever changed.

That's the usual response when the leak protection detects water in the base. Turn it off and look for drips at the supply and drain connections. The leak itself, often a hose, seal or door gasket, has to be fixed and the base dried before it will run.
Remove and clean the filter at the bottom of the tub, then check the drain hose for kinks and the disposal connection if it drains through one. If the water stays, the drain pump or a blockage behind it needs attention.
On very hard water, a cloudy film is usually mineral deposits. Use rinse aid, a detergent made for hard water and, if your model has a hardness setting, set it to match. Etching that won't wash off is a different problem, often caused by too much detergent on softened water.
Not if it's leaking onto the floor, smells of burning or trips the breaker. A dishwasher that leaves water behind or cleans poorly won't be harmed by waiting, but clean the filter first, since it's a common cause of both.
