Smeg stove repair: what to know
On a Smeg freestanding cooker, the burners on top usually give trouble before the oven does. Smeg's gas burners use brass or aluminum caps and a separate spark electrode for each burner, and many models add a thermocouple that shuts the gas off if the flame goes out. Spills that reach the electrode, a cap seated slightly off-center, or a dirty thermocouple tip account for many burners that click but won't stay lit.

Each knob operates a small ignition switch. Moisture or grease getting behind the knobs can leave a switch closed, so the spark module keeps firing. Let the area dry out; if the clicking continues, the switch is replaced.
Check that the burner cap sits flat and centered, then hold the knob down for 10 seconds after lighting. If it still goes out, the thermocouple for that burner may be dirty, bent away from the flame or failed.
