Maytag stove repair: what to know
Maytag stoves still in service include pre-2006 Maytag-designed ranges, such as the Gemini double-oven models, as well as newer Whirlpool-built stoves. The distinction matters for parts: older Maytag control boards and some oven components were Maytag-specific, and a number are no longer made. Newer stoves share Whirlpool's igniters, elements and sensors. On either generation, the igniter's current draw or the element's resistance is tested before a board is condemned.
Worth knowing about Maytag: Maytag has been part of Whirlpool since 2006, so a Maytag built in the years since shares its internals and parts with Whirlpool models. Also, Maytag machines from before the Whirlpool merger are mechanically solid, but some of their parts are no longer made, so we confirm the part exists before recommending the repair.

One stove symptom that's easy to misread is a burner that keeps clicking, which usually means a wet or dirty igniter rather than an electrical failure and often stops once the burner is properly cleaned and dried.
What Maytag stove repairs usually involve
Parts for Maytag are made in volume and stocked by many suppliers. On a Maytag stove, the parts that wear out are mostly inexpensive ones: igniters, surface elements and their switches, bake elements and temperature sensors.
The bill changes when the fault is an electronic control board or a gas safety valve. On a newer unit that can still be a sensible repair; on one well into its working life, it's often the point where replacing makes more sense, and you'll hear that at the diagnosis.

On older electronic Maytag stoves, a failing display or control board is a common cause, sometimes after a power surge. Turning the breaker off and on can reset it. If the oven won't run without the display, the board needs replacing, and older boards can be scarce.
The model and serial number settle it, but age is a quick guide: stoves built from the late 2000s onward are generally on Whirlpool platforms. That tells you whether common Whirlpool parts will fit or Maytag-specific ones are needed.
