Admiral stove repair: what to know
Admiral stoves are basic 30-inch freestanding models, usually electric coil with some gas versions, with simple dial or push-button controls. The oven thermostat or sensor, the bake and broil elements, and the coil receptacles are the parts that wear, and most can be replaced from the front or back without taking the whole stove apart. On electric models, the power cord connects at a terminal block on the back, and a loose connection there can overheat.
Worth knowing about Admiral: Admiral appliances sold in the U.S. came from Maytag and later Whirlpool, so the parts inside are Whirlpool-family parts. Also, most Admirals still running are old enough that their mechanical parts are still made but some of their electronics are not, and we check which is which before quoting.

Whatever the brand, on a stove we check burners and igniters first, the oven's sensor and element next, the door last — cooktop and oven fail independently, so we pin down which side is actually at fault.
One stove problem that often sends people to the wrong part is a burner that keeps clicking, which usually means a wet or dirty igniter rather than an electrical failure and often stops once the burner is properly cleaned and dried.
When an Admiral stove is worth fixing
Admiral keeps its appliances simple and affordable, with little electronics inside, so most failures come down to a switch, pump, belt, valve or thermal fuse that is quick to find and not costly to replace.
A new Admiral doesn't cost much either, so a repair has to stay small to be worth it. If an older unit has a major failure, such as an electronic control board or a gas safety valve, replacing it is usually the better use of the money.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are behind the storage drawer, on the frame behind the oven door, or on the back. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which Admiral platform you have and which parts to bring.
Work out which half has the problem, a burner or the oven. Check that burner caps are seated and the igniters are clean and dry, and note any error code on the control.

Switch the stove off at the breaker. A loose connection at the power cord terminal block, where the cord attaches at the back, can overheat and scorch, and it needs inspecting before the stove is used again. Burned terminals and the cord are replaced together.
On dial-thermostat models, the thermostat can sometimes be calibrated with a small adjustment at the knob or stem, depending on the model. If it's far off or inconsistent, the thermostat or its sensing bulb has failed and needs replacing.
It depends on the range outlet in the wall: stoves connect with either a three-wire or four-wire cord to match it. The cord must be wired to the terminal block correctly, including the ground strap setting in the installation instructions. A wrong or loose connection can overheat or create a shock hazard.
Which half failed and which part. Burner caps, igniters and infinite switches on the cooktop are small parts; oven igniters, elements and sensors are routine; control boards and glass tops cost more. The quote comes after testing.
