Thermador oven repair: what to know
Thermador wall ovens span the Masterpiece and Professional series in single, double and combination versions, including steam and convection models and matching warming drawers. Convection relies on a rear fan and element, and a failure there leaves baking uneven while the oven still heats. Self-clean models lock the door during the cycle, and a lock motor or switch fault can leave it locked afterward. Steam ovens use a water reservoir or a plumbed supply, and both scale on very hard water.
Worth knowing about Thermador: Thermador belongs to BSH alongside Bosch and Gaggenau, but its pro ranges use Thermador's own burners and oven components. Also, Thermador's star-shaped burners spread the flame over more ports than a round burner, so an uneven flame usually means clogged ports or an igniter problem, not the gas supply.

How we diagnose a Thermador oven
Whatever the brand, on an oven we check the temperature sensor and the bake element or igniter, then the door gasket and hinges — a door that no longer shuts flat bleeds off enough heat to pass for a control problem.
One oven symptom that's easy to misread is an oven its owner thinks runs cold that is actually cycling normally around a setpoint a few degrees off, something most models let you correct with a calibration setting instead of a part.
Built-in Thermador equipment: what the visit involves
Most Thermador equipment is built into cabinetry or anchored in place, so the visit starts with working out how to reach it. We allow a longer appointment and protect floors, cabinet faces and countertops before anything moves.
It changes the economics as well. Replacing a fitted Thermador oven usually means cabinet or countertop work on top of the new appliance, so a failure that would retire a freestanding unit is usually still a repair here.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are on the frame behind the oven door, or behind the storage or warming drawer. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which Thermador platform you have and which parts to bring.
Check the breaker (electric ovens use a double breaker), make sure the control isn't in a delay, lock or Sabbath mode, and on a gas range confirm the cooktop burners still light. Note whether bake, broil or both have stopped.

Let the oven cool completely, then switch the breaker off for a minute to reset the control. If the lock still won't release, the lock motor, its switch or the control may have failed. Forcing the door can bend the latch, so leave it for repair.
Follow the descaling prompts with the descaler Thermador specifies, and empty and dry the reservoir after steam cooking. Neglected scale can block the steam generator and cause water faults, and on very hard water it builds faster than on soft.
Each cavity has its own elements, sensor and control circuits, so one can fail while the other works. A failed bake element, sensor or relay is the usual suspect in the dead cavity, and testing each circuit separately shows which.
Not if it smells of gas, sparks, heats when switched off or trips the breaker. An oven that runs a little hot or cool can be used carefully with an oven thermometer on the center rack.
