Avanti oven repair: what to know
Avanti ovens are compact 24-inch wall ovens and the ovens inside its apartment-size ranges, in gas and electric. Electric ovens use bake and broil elements with a thermostat or sensor, and gas models use an igniter and safety valve. Because the cavity is small, a failing element or thermostat has an outsized effect on cooking results, and uneven browning shows up quickly. Parts availability varies by model, so it's confirmed before anything is ordered.

How we diagnose an Avanti oven
Whatever the brand, on an oven we check the temperature sensor and the bake element or igniter, then the door gasket and hinges — a door that no longer shuts flat bleeds off enough heat to pass for a control problem.
One oven problem that often sends people to the wrong part is an oven its owner thinks runs cold that is actually cycling normally around a setpoint a few degrees off, something most models let you correct with a calibration setting instead of a part.
When an Avanti oven is worth fixing
Avanti keeps its appliances simple and affordable, with little electronics inside, so most failures come down to a switch, pump, belt, valve or thermal fuse that is quick to find and not costly to replace.
A new Avanti doesn't cost much either, so a repair has to stay small to be worth it. If an older unit has a major failure, such as an electronic control board or, on a gas oven, the safety valve, replacing it is usually the better use of the money.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are on the frame behind the oven door, or behind the storage or warming drawer. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which Avanti platform you have and which parts to bring.
Check the breaker (electric ovens use a double breaker), make sure the control isn't in a delay, lock or Sabbath mode, and on a gas range confirm the cooktop burners still light. Note whether bake, broil or both have stopped.

In a small cavity the bake element sits close to the pan, so a thermostat reading low and keeping the element on too long shows up fast. Check the temperature with an oven thermometer. Baking on the middle rack with a light-colored pan also helps.
Make sure the gas supply valve is open and watch whether the igniter glows. A weak igniter won't open the safety valve. If you smell gas that persists, leave the house and call CPS Energy or your gas provider from outside.
On models with a mechanical selector, the switch behind the knob can wear or its contacts burn, so power never reaches the element. The knob itself can also crack and slip on the shaft. Both are testable separately.
Mostly the part. Igniters, elements and temperature sensors are routine replacements; control boards and door-lock assemblies cost more; and a wall oven can add labor if it has to come out of the cabinet. The quote follows the diagnosis.
