Bosch oven repair: what to know
Bosch wall ovens come in single, double and combination versions across the 500, 800 and Benchmark series, including speed ovens and steam-convection models. Their European-style convection uses a rear fan and element, so the fan motor or that element can fail while bake and broil still work. The electronic control watches a temperature sensor and the door lock, and a fault in either can stop self-clean or heating altogether. Steam models draw from a water tank that scales quickly on hard water unless descaled when prompted.
Worth knowing about Bosch: a Bosch runs quietly enough that a pump or bearing starting to go is audible well ahead of a breakdown, so a new noise is worth a call early.

How we diagnose a Bosch oven
Whatever the brand, on an oven we check the temperature sensor and the bake element or igniter, then the door gasket and hinges — a door that no longer shuts flat bleeds off enough heat to pass for a control problem.
One oven symptom that's easy to misread is an oven its owner thinks runs cold that is actually cycling normally around a setpoint a few degrees off, something most models let you correct with a calibration setting instead of a part.
Repairing a Bosch oven instead of replacing it
Bosch builds for a long working life and keeps parts available for years. When one component fails on a Bosch oven that's ten or fifteen years old, the rest of the machine often has plenty of life left, which isn't always true of an entry-level appliance at that age.
Bosch parts cost more and are more often special-order, so some repairs need a second visit. You'll know the wait before you agree to the repair, and the return visit is booked before we leave.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are on the frame behind the oven door, or behind the storage or warming drawer. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which Bosch platform you have and which parts to bring.
Check the breaker (electric ovens use a double breaker), make sure the control isn't in a delay, lock or Sabbath mode, and on a gas range confirm the cooktop burners still light. Note whether bake, broil or both have stopped.

Convection on Bosch ovens uses a separate fan and, on true-convection models, a ring element behind the rear panel. If the fan is silent or stiff to turn, a seized motor or an open element is a common cause. The bake and broil elements run on their own circuits, so they can keep working.
Run the descaling program when the oven asks, using the descaler Bosch specifies, and empty and dry the water tank after use. San Antonio's water is very hard, so scale builds faster than the reminder may assume. Skipping descaling can block the steam system and trigger water faults.
For elements, fans, sensors and door work, usually not. Some control and wiring repairs need the oven slid forward out of its opening, which takes two people and care with the trim and the cabinet face.
Mostly the part. Igniters, elements and temperature sensors are routine replacements; control boards and door-lock assemblies cost more; and a wall oven can add labor if it has to come out of the cabinet. The quote follows the diagnosis.
