Kenmore oven repair: what to know
Kenmore wall ovens and range ovens were built by more than one manufacturer, and a 790 prefix points to Frigidaire. Frigidaire-built gas ovens use a glow-bar igniter that weakens with age, and the electric ones fail most often at bake elements and temperature sensors. Kenmore Elite ovens added convection, so fan motors and convection elements join the list. Since Kenmore-branded parts are the manufacturer's own under a different label, most are still available through that manufacturer's network.
Worth knowing about Kenmore: Kenmore never built its own appliances; Sears sold models made by Whirlpool, LG, Frigidaire, GE and others, and the digits before the decimal point in a Kenmore model number name the maker. Also, without the model number there is no way to tell whose engineering sits behind a Kenmore badge, or which parts will fit it.

Whatever the brand, on an oven we check the temperature sensor and the bake element or igniter, then the door gasket and hinges — a door that no longer shuts flat bleeds off enough heat to pass for a control problem.
One oven symptom that's easy to misread is an oven its owner thinks runs cold that is actually cycling normally around a setpoint a few degrees off, something most models let you correct with a calibration setting instead of a part.
What Kenmore oven repairs usually involve
Parts for Kenmore are made in volume and stocked by many suppliers. On a Kenmore oven, the parts that wear out are mostly inexpensive ones: bake and broil elements, gas igniters, temperature sensors, door gaskets and hinges.
The bill changes when the fault is an electronic control board or, on a gas oven, the safety valve. On a newer unit that can still be a sensible repair; on one well into its working life, it's often the point where replacing makes more sense, and you'll hear that at the diagnosis.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are on the frame behind the oven door, or behind the storage or warming drawer. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which Kenmore platform you have and which parts to bring.
Check the breaker (electric ovens use a double breaker), make sure the control isn't in a delay, lock or Sabbath mode, and on a gas range confirm the cooktop burners still light. Note whether bake, broil or both have stopped.

Check the model number on the frame inside the oven door or behind the storage drawer. A 790 prefix means Frigidaire built it; other prefixes point to different makers. That decides which igniter, element or sensor fits.
Gas ovens use a glow-bar igniter, not a spark, so clicking is unusual. If you smell gas that persists, turn the oven off, leave the house and call CPS Energy or your gas provider from outside. A weak igniter delays ignition but shouldn't leave a strong smell.
The convection fan motor or convection element is the usual cause. If the fan doesn't turn when convection is selected, the motor or its control relay needs testing.
Mostly the part. Igniters, elements and temperature sensors are routine replacements; control boards and door-lock assemblies cost more; and a wall oven can add labor if it has to come out of the cabinet. The quote follows the diagnosis.
