LG washer repair: what to know
LG washers use a direct-drive motor mounted on the back of the tub, so there's no drive belt, and front-loaders have a drain pump filter behind a small door at the lower front. The display does much of the early diagnosis: OE for draining, IE for filling, UE for an unbalanced load, dE for the door lock and LE when the motor is locked or overloaded. A tcL message is a reminder to run the Tub Clean cycle, not a fault.
Worth knowing about LG: LG front-loaders mount the drum straight onto the motor with no belt, so a worn tub bearing or a loose rotor announces itself as rumbling or knocking on spin long before the machine stops. Also, most LG appliances have a Smart Diagnosis feature that reports a fault through the LG app or a phone held to the panel, and the result is worth passing along when you book.

How we diagnose an LG washer
Whatever the brand, on a washer we check draining first, filling second, the drive system last — a washer that refuses to spin is usually one that can't get rid of its water, and clogged pumps and filters cause that far more often than bad motors or boards.
One washer symptom that's easy to misread is a washer error code taken to mean a broken part when it's describing a situation: an off-balance load, a water valve only partly open, or a drain hose shoved so deep into the standpipe that it siphons.
What LG washer repairs usually involve
Parts for LG are made in volume and stocked by many suppliers. On an LG washer, the parts that wear out are mostly inexpensive ones: drain pumps, lid and door locks, inlet valves, drive couplers and belts, suspension parts and front-load door boots.
The bill changes when the fault is a main control board, a drive motor or worn tub bearings on a front-loader. On a newer unit that can still be a sensible repair; on one well into its working life, it's often the point where replacing makes more sense, and you'll hear that at the diagnosis.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are under the lid or around the door opening, or on the back panel. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which LG platform you have and which parts to bring.
Front-loaders have a drain filter behind a small panel at the bottom; check it for socks and coins. Make sure both water valves are fully open and the drain hose isn't pushed too far down the standpipe, and write down any error code.

OE means the washer couldn't drain in time. On front-loaders, open the small door at the bottom front, drain the water through the little hose into a shallow pan and clean the pump filter. On top-loaders, check the drain hose for kinks and the standpipe for a clog. If it still won't drain, the pump needs testing.
LE means the motor is locked or overloaded. An overstuffed tub, an item wedged between the tub and drum, or a fault in the motor's stator, rotor position sensor or wiring can cause it. Reduce the load and restart; if LE returns with an empty drum, the motor system needs testing.
tcL is a reminder to run the Tub Clean cycle, and it appears after a set number of washes. Run the cycle with the drum empty. It isn't an error, although skipping it for long periods can lead to odors.
The part and the labor to reach it. Drain pumps, lid locks and inlet valves are fairly contained jobs. Tub bearings and seals mean taking the tub apart, which is the largest repair on most washers. You get the price after the cause is confirmed, before work begins.
