Bosch washer repair: what to know
Bosch washers are 24-inch compact front-loaders, often stacked with a matching dryer in a closet or under a counter. They use less water and less detergent than a full-size machine, so a full-size dose of soap leaves suds and residue that interfere with draining and spinning. The drain pump filter sits behind a small flap at the bottom front, and a coin or hair tie caught there stops the cycle with a drain error well before the pump itself fails.
Worth knowing about Bosch: a Bosch runs quietly enough that a pump or bearing starting to go is audible well ahead of a breakdown, so a new noise is worth a call early.

One washer symptom that's easy to misread is a washer error code taken to mean a broken part when it's describing a situation: an off-balance load, a water valve only partly open, or a drain hose shoved so deep into the standpipe that it siphons.
Repairing a Bosch washer instead of replacing it
Bosch builds for a long working life and keeps parts available for years. When one component fails on a Bosch washer that's ten or fifteen years old, the rest of the machine often has plenty of life left, which isn't always true of an entry-level appliance at that age.
Bosch parts cost more and are more often special-order, so some repairs need a second visit. You'll know the wait before you agree to the repair, and the return visit is booked before we leave.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are under the lid or around the door opening, or on the back panel. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which Bosch platform you have and which parts to bring.
Front-loaders have a drain filter behind a small panel at the bottom; check it for socks and coins. Make sure both water valves are fully open and the drain hose isn't pushed too far down the standpipe, and write down any error code.

Often not. Open the flap at the bottom front, drain the small hose into a shallow pan, then unscrew the pump filter and clear it. If the error returns with a clean filter and an unkinked drain hose, the pump or its wiring needs testing.
Use HE detergent, and less of it than the bottle suggests for a full-size machine. Too much soap makes suds the washer detects, which lengthens the cycle and can leave residue on clothes. Very hard water may need slightly more than soft water, but still well under a full-size dose.
A compact washer spins fast in a small cabinet, so it has to be level and solid on the floor. Check that the shipping bolts were removed at installation, the feet are locked and the stacking kit is secure. If it still shakes, the shock absorbers or springs may be worn.
Common parts such as drain pumps, lid locks, belts and inlet valves can often be fitted at the first visit if they're available for your model. Bearing jobs and control boards more often need parts ordered and a second trip.
