JennAir range repair: what to know
JennAir's pro-style ranges come in dual-fuel and all-gas versions from 30 to 48 inches wide, with high-output sealed burners and, on some, a griddle. Dual-fuel models pair the gas cooktop with an electric convection oven, often with JennAir's dual-fan system. Their size and weight mean most service happens in place from the front and top, and when a range has to move, the gas connector and anti-tip bracket are checked on the way back. Knob-mounted spark switches can wear on heavily used burners.
Worth knowing about JennAir: JennAir is the luxury brand in Whirlpool's family, so many mechanical parts are shared with KitchenAid and Whirlpool while control boards and panels are JennAir's own. Also, JennAir made its name with downdraft cooktops, and when the downdraft stops pulling smoke, the culprit is usually the blower or the duct run, not the cooktop.

Built-in JennAir equipment: what the visit involves
Most JennAir equipment is built into cabinetry or anchored in place, so the visit starts with working out how to reach it. We allow a longer appointment and protect floors, cabinet faces and countertops before anything moves.
It changes the economics as well. Replacing a fitted JennAir range usually means cabinet or countertop work on top of the new appliance, so a failure that would retire a freestanding unit is usually still a repair here.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are behind the storage drawer, on the frame behind the oven door, or on the back. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which JennAir platform you have and which parts to bring.
Check whether the fault is on the cooktop, in the oven or both, since they're diagnosed separately. Make sure burner caps are seated and dry, and write down any error code.

A spark switch behind one knob is staying closed, often because of grease or moisture, so the module keeps firing. Drying the area may stop it for a while, but a sticking switch usually needs replacing. If it clicks with every knob off, a switch is shorted.
The electric oven's bake, broil and convection elements run on 240 volts, while the gas cooktop only needs power for ignition. If one leg of the breaker trips, the oven can go dead while the burners still light, so check the breaker before assuming an oven part has failed.
Not always. Elements, sensors and the door are usually reached from inside the oven, and burner parts from the top. Control boards and some wiring need the range pulled forward, which means disconnecting the gas line and leak-testing it afterward.
Range faults share symptoms: an oven that won't heat can be an igniter, an element, a sensor or a relay, and a burner that won't light can be a cap, an electrode or the spark module. Testing identifies which.
