Admiral range repair: what to know
Admiral's gas ranges use surface burners with electronic spark ignition and a glow-bar igniter in the oven. Because the gas side is so simple, a range that lights on the cooktop but not in the oven narrows quickly to the oven igniter, the gas valve or the thermostat circuit. On any gas range, the burner flame should be blue with a steady cone; a yellow, lazy flame means the burner needs cleaning or adjustment.
Worth knowing about Admiral: Admiral appliances sold in the U.S. came from Maytag and later Whirlpool, so the parts inside are Whirlpool-family parts. Also, most Admirals still running are old enough that their mechanical parts are still made but some of their electronics are not, and we check which is which before quoting.

The oven igniter is the most common cause: it has to glow hot enough to open the oven's gas valve. If it doesn't glow at all, the igniter or the thermostat circuit feeding it is suspect. The valve itself fails less often.
A brief smell as the oven burner lights can be normal, especially if the igniter is slow. A smell that lingers, or any smell with the oven off, isn't: turn the range off, leave the house and call CPS Energy or your gas provider from outside.
The shutoff valve is usually behind the range on the gas line, reached by removing the storage drawer or sliding the range forward. The handle is off when it sits crosswise to the pipe. If you smell gas, leave rather than trying to find the valve.
The half that failed, the part and the access. Pro-style and slide-in ranges can take more labor to pull out and reach, and dual-fuel ranges have both gas and electric parts. The quote is given once the fault is confirmed.
