A classic pattern is gas valve coils that work cold and fail once they warm up, so the igniter glows but the valve won't reopen. A weak flame sensor or a restricted vent tripping a thermostat can look similar. The coils and sensor can be tested and replaced individually.
Only with the stacking kit specified for that pair and with the dryer's weight lifted safely. Check the manual for the kit part number. A stacked dryer also needs its vent connection reachable, since a crushed transition duct behind a closet stack is a common cause of long drying times.
A squeal at start-up usually comes from a dry idler pulley or worn drum glides at the front. Rollers that have gone flat make more of a thumping sound. These parts wear together, so they are often replaced as a set when the drum is out.
Not if it smells of burning or gas, trips the breaker or runs very hot. A dryer that's only slow can be used briefly, but clean the lint screen every load and check that the outside vent flap opens, because slow drying usually means restricted airflow and higher temperatures.
