Sub-Zero freezers come as built-in freezer columns and all-freezer units that sit beside a matching refrigerator column. Because a column carries its own compressor, condenser and defrost system, a freezer that warms up has nothing to do with the refrigerator next to it. The common weak points are the defrost circuit, the evaporator fan and the ice maker, and on units near a hot exterior wall the condenser has to shed heat without much airflow around it.
Worth knowing about Sub-Zero: most Sub-Zero built-ins run two independent refrigeration systems, one for fresh food and one for the freezer, so one side can quit entirely while the other holds perfect temperature — working out which is the first job. Most Sub-Zero equipment is built into cabinetry or anchored in place, so the visit starts with working out how to reach it. We allow a longer appointment and protect floors, cabinet faces and countertops before anything moves.
It changes the economics as well. Replacing a fitted Sub-Zero freezer usually means cabinet or countertop work on top of the new appliance, so a failure that would retire a freestanding unit is usually still a repair here.
Before the visit
The model and serial number are on the inside wall of an upright, or inside the lid or on the back of a chest freezer. A photo of that label is the most useful thing you can send when you book: it tells us which Sub-Zero platform you have and which parts to bring.
Check that the door or lid closes fully and the gasket isn't torn, and look for frost around the opening. If the temperature is climbing, move the food to another freezer or a cooler with ice before the visit.
