Bosch freezer repair: what to know
Bosch sells freezers mainly as built-in Benchmark columns and as the freezer section of its bottom-freezer and French-door refrigerators. A column works on its own, with its own sensors, fans and defrost system, so a warm freezer column says nothing about the matching refrigerator column. Frost-free operation depends on the defrost heater and its sensor, and a failure lets the evaporator ice solid. Built-in units breathe through a grille at the base, so a blocked grille raises running temperatures.

One freezer symptom that's easy to misread is a freezer written off as having a dead compressor when a torn door gasket or a failed defrost part is letting frost choke the coil and the cabinet warm up.
Repairing a Bosch freezer instead of replacing it
Bosch builds for a long working life and keeps parts available for years. When one component fails on a Bosch freezer that's ten or fifteen years old, the rest of the machine often has plenty of life left, which isn't always true of an entry-level appliance at that age.

Before the visit

Check that the door or lid closes fully and the gasket isn't torn, and look for frost around the opening. If the temperature is climbing, move the food to another freezer or a cooler with ice before the visit.

Frost comes from humid air getting in or from a defrost cycle that isn't working. Check that the door closes fully and the gasket seals all the way around, which matters more with a heavy custom panel. If the seal is good and frost keeps building on the back wall, the defrost heater, sensor or control needs testing.
Built-in columns pull air in and push warm air out through the grille at the base. Dust, a rug or a toe-kick heater blocking it makes the unit run hot and longer. Vacuum the grille periodically, and have the condenser cleaned if the freezer struggles in summer.
The parts are similar, but in a combination fridge the two sections share one compressor and, depending on the model, may share or have separate evaporators and fans. That means a freezer fault can affect the fresh-food side too. The model number settles which parts are shared.
A freezer that won't freeze can have a failed start relay, a blocked condenser, a defrost fault or a refrigerant leak. The difference only shows up in testing, and the parts involved are very different.
