Check that it's plugged in and the outlet works, including any GFCI outlet in a garage that may have tripped. Turn the control dial off and back on. If the outlet is live and the freezer stays silent, the cold control or the compressor circuit needs testing.
Frost near the opening, an overpacked shelf or a warped gasket can hold it open. Clear the frost and check the gasket for tears. A gap lets humid air in, which builds more frost.
Aim for 0°F, measured with a thermometer in the middle of the freezer rather than read off the dial. If it can't get near that with the dial at its coldest setting, something is wrong.
