It's worth checking. Convertible models can be switched to run as a refrigerator from the control panel, and the display shows the selected mode. If it's set to freezer and still won't hold temperature, the problem is in the cooling or defrost system.
Check the manual for the model's rated operating range. Many units aren't designed for summer garage temperatures, and running outside that range means long run times and poor holding temperature with every part working.
