Insignia microwaves are countertop models, some with convection or air-fry functions. They use the same high-voltage design as any microwave: a magnetron, capacitor, diode and door interlock switches. The capacitor can hold a dangerous charge after unplugging, so a microwave that runs without heating needs a technician. On a basic countertop Insignia, the repair only makes sense when the part is available and the fault is limited, such as a door switch.

When an Insignia microwave is worth fixing

A blown internal fuse is a common cause, often triggered by a failing door switch. The fuse and switches have to be tested together, or a new fuse will blow again. The cabinet shouldn't be opened until the high-voltage capacitor is discharged.
On combination models, air fry uses a separate heating element and a fan, apart from the microwave circuit. If that element or fan fails, microwave heating still works but browning stops. Listen for the fan when air fry is selected.
The membrane keypad wears or its ribbon connector loosens with age. If a replacement keypad is available for the model, it can be fitted. If only one or two keys fail, the membrane is almost always the cause rather than the control board.
Door switches, turntable motors and fuses are common parts; magnetrons and control boards for less common models may need ordering. An over-the-range unit can need two people to take down.
