Pearl Ice is formed by an auger in a freezing cylinder. Grinding often means scale on the auger or bearings wearing out. Descale it, and have the bearings checked before they damage the auger.
A full batch isn't freezing: scale on the evaporator, a weak water pump or a dirty condenser are likely. Run the cleaning cycle and clean the condenser; if cubes stay thin, the water system is tested.
Use the cleaner and sanitizer named in the Ice-O-Matic manual for your model. General-purpose descalers can be too harsh for the evaporator and plastic parts.
Once it's running, the first harvest usually comes within the first hour, but refilling the bin takes much longer. After a cleaning or sanitizing cycle, discard the first batch as the manufacturer instructs.
